Imagine being so turned on that you can’t think… then after your orgasm you do start thinking. You think “WTF?”

So what is post nut syndrome? And what is post nut clarity?
Post nut syndrome is when you feel gross, guilty and ashamed after you orgrasm. You’re probably wondering “Why do I feel guilty after masturbating or having sex?” Sometimes they call it post nut clarity because once you orgasm, you face the truth of your decisions…. Or who you slept with. Maybe the porn you watched sent you down in a shame spiral.
Post nut syndrome can sometimes make us feel like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. How can something disgust us so much when a moment ago, it aroused us? A lot of us have been there. Including women.
This experience among humans is so real that there is a scientific word for it. It’s called Post Coiltal Tristesse or PCT for short. Even though there’s health benefits of orgasming and we are supposed to feel amazing afterwards, sometimes PCT happens and there’s a reason for that.
Why does post nut clarity happen? Or post nut syndrome?
We have to first point out social conditioning. One of my goals in life is to help people not be ashamed of who they are.
If you were taught that sex is wrong, sinful or some sort of abomination, you might feel sexual shame. If you’re not hurting anyone, sex is nothing to be ashamed about. Sex is natural, sex is human and sex is essential for this world if we want to keep it going round.
If you didn’t grow up in some sort of religious cult or were conditioned that sex is something you shouldn’t be doing, there is a biological reason why post nut clarity or syndrome happens.
You know how you get drunk and do things you wouldn’t do sober then the following morning you have a hangover? Post nut syndrome is kind of like that.
When sexually aroused, our brain chemicals go ape shit. We are flooded with dopamine, oxytocin, endorphins, testosterone and more. Drugs that mimic these brain chemicals literally exist so it’s like a coke head having an all nighter. This is why being sexually aroused can sometimes be like making drunk decisions.
What happens after a night of drinking heavily? The next morning you have a hangover. After your brain was loaded with all of those brain chemicals during orgasm, suddenly you bottom out after the orgasm. Post nut syndrome is the hangover.
The fact that when you’re sexually aroused, your disgust tolerance decreases significantly doesn’t help the situation either. This explains why sometimes you can’t stand yourself after watching porn or feeling some sort of low emotion after sex. Again, decision making during arousal is sometimes like decision making when drunk.
Also, the crazy surge of dopamine you get when orgasming, lowers a brain chemical called prolactin. Prolactin is responsible for milk production in women after pregnancy and responsible for regulating the reproductive system in both men and women. As soon as the orgasm is over, dopamine drops dramatically while a load of prolactin suddenly increases. Prolactin is known for temporarily reducing sexual desire.
I must note that post nut clarity is not ALWAYS bad. Some people need clarity to work on a project or something. Orgasms generally offer relief to frustrations. Frustrations can cause lack of focus and motivation. Sexual relief can give you clarity for cognitive function. But on the other side of the same coin, you might be so clear that you will have a “Wtf was I thinking?” moment.
Do women get post nut clarity?
Fuck yes.
Women release the same hormones during sex. This phenomenon may seem like a male-only thing because heterosexual women aren’t having as much orgasms. You’d have to nut in order to get post nut clarity.
There’s also something called the Refractory Period that happens after an orgasm. Refractory period is a period where a person cannot be stimulated or reach orgasm again. Both men and women have it. The length of this period depends on the health of the person but generally, women’s refractory period is much shorter than men’s refractory period. This too can be a reason why post nut clarity or post nut syndrome seem exclusive to males.

How to deal with post nut syndrome or clarity?
Let’s say you wake up in the morning with a headache and you have no idea what caused it. You start thinking and replaying everything you did the previous days, then you start googling and according to the internet, you should be on your deathbed. Now your headache is even worse!
But if you wake up with a headache knowing it’s a hangover from drinking the previous night, you will get better much faster. You take the steps to remedy the situation and move on with your day.
How you deal with post nut clarity is what you did just now- reading this post. You will no longer wonder “Why do I feel guilty after masturbating?” Awareness brings relief.
Just like a hangover, your best bet is to ride it out and practice aftercare. Trying to avoid or suppress your negative emotions, will come out in different ways. You might snap on someone or you might prematurely end a relationship. Post nut syndrome is going to do it’s thing regardless so you might as well let it do it’s thing the right way.
If you have that sort of relationship, talk it out with your partner, go out to eat with them, check in with each other, cuddle etc.
I am a huge fan of turning bad situations into gold. Make post nut syndrome work FOR you by reflecting on your life. Figure out where the shame and guilt came from if it’s more than just your brain chemicals being looney.
